MLB First Five Innings Bets

1st Five Innings Team Side & Totals

This bet has become a favorite of mine as more and more starting pitchers are pulled before the 6th inning. Betting a full game, oftentimes needing to handicap several relief pitchers. The time spent to know the relievers is often better spent on handicapping the starting pitchers. First I will show an example of five inning bets and then I will discuss the advantages.

Example of Five Inning MLB Bets

At most sportsbooks there will be money line, total and spread bets offered on every game.

MLB first five money line bet is just like a game bet except the winner is determined by which team is ahead after just five innings.

Example:

Braves (-120)

Nationals (+100)

If the score after five innings is Nationals 3 and Braves 2. Then the Nationals would win $100 on a $100 bet. The difference between first five bets and game bets is the tie. While there are no ties in full MLB games there are ties in first five bets. If the score after five complete innings was Nationals 3 and Braves 3. The game would be a tie and a push on your bet.

MLB first five spread bet is like a game run line bet except it might be 0.5 runs instead of 1.5 runs.

Example:

Braves (-0.5) runs (+125)

Nationals (+0.5) runs (-140)

If the score after five innings is Braves 3 and Nationals 2. Then the Braves would win $125 on a $100 bet. The spread bet comes into play if there is a tie after 5 innings. If the score after five inning was Braves 3 and Nationals 3. Then the Braves bet would be a loss and the Nationals bet would be a win.

MLB first five innings total bet

Example:

Braves vs Nationals over 4.5 (-110) and under 4.5 (-110)

The total after five complete innings is used to determine the winner of the bet.

Example:

Braves 3 – Nationals 2 after five innings. The over would win this bet

Braves 2 – Nationals 2 after five innings. The under would win this bet.

Sometimes the first five inning total is given as an even number.

Example:

Braves vs Nationals over 5.0 (-110) and under 5.0 (-110)

Braves 4 – Nationals 2 after five innings. The over would win this bet.

Braves 2 – Nationals 2 after five innings. The under would win this bet.

Braves 3 – Nationals 2 after five innings. The bet is a push.
