Syracuse vs North Carolina Final Four Preview

Syracuse and North Carolina have already met twice this season, and UNC won both meetings, winning 84-73 in New York and winning 75-70 in Chapel Hill. In both of those games, the Tar Heels forced Syracuse’s offense to the perimeter, and Syracuse couldn’t hit the threes. The Orange shot less than 30 percent from beyond the arc in both games, and Brice Johnson had a field day in the paint. North Carolina’s ball movement and quickness created a lot of problems for the Orange, and look for UNC to use that same recipe this time around.
Syracuse (23-13) is long and athletic, and the Orange’s defense is what makes the team tough to beat. They play a lot of zone, and it forces teams to work hard on every possession to find an open look. Forward Michael Gbinije is the team’s leading scorer, and he’s a workhorse who does a little bit of everything. Gbinije can knock down shots from the perimeter, he can use his outside jumper to set up drives to the bucket. He also is a good rebounder and a fantastic passer whose unselfishness helps keep opponents scrambling on defense. Guard Malachi Richardson provides balance on the floor. He gets to the line, he’s aggressive with the ball and does a nice job of not trying to do too much on the floor. North Carolina (32-6) is absolutely rolling into Houston, and the Tar Heels are doing it with athleticism and balance. Forward Brice Johnson is a major talent in the post who takes advantage of his length and jumping ability. Johnson is probably the best big man left in the tournament. One thing that makes Johnson so effective is that he is surrounded by top talent. Against Notre Dame in the Elite Eight, all five UNC starters scored in double figures.

SYRACUSE ORANGE
Michael Gbinije 15 PTS, 4 REB, 3.8 AST
Trevor Cooney 14 PTS, 2 REB, 35 FG%
Malachi Richardson 13 PTS, 4 REB, 34.2 FG%

NORTH CAROLINA TAR HEELS
Brice Johnson 14 PTS, 8 REB, 1.3 BLK
Marcus Paige 13 PTS, 2 REB, 3.7 AST
Justin Jackson 11 PTS, 3 REB, 45.2 FG%
The point spread opened at the same line which indicates that the amount wagered is balanced on both sides.

Syracuse vs North Carolina Betting Pick

Wonder how the investigators at the NCAA are feeling about seeing Syracuse in the Final Four. Cheaters never prosper? Ask multi millionaires Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, and Alex Rodriguez about that. Let’s face it. Head coaches prosper from cheating too. They get those fat contracts for producing winners. Maybe it is time for the NCAA to stop punishing athletes with post season bans and start punishing coaches with massive fines that will take away any incentive to cheat….now back to the game. Syracuse is a talented team. More talented than their regular season record would indicate. The Orange were able to come back against Virginia because they abandoned plan A and went to plan B. The thing to know is plan A is why they have a regular season record worse than it should have been. If Boeheim had let his kids be more aggressive all season they could have been a top five seed. Desperation not brilliance by Boeheim proved vital last week and it will again this week. Look for Syracuse to come out strong and match North Carolina basket for basket. This is a game that will be fought down to the last 30 seconds. So, I am taking Syracuse and the points. No bet on the total because I think 145 is a good number.
