About California Bears

Offense: Starters returning – 4; Defense: Starters returning – 6
California was able to bring in Davis Webb from Texas Tech to take over at QB for Jared Goff. One thing that isn’t getting enough press is that all six of Cals’ top receivers from last year are also gone. The defensive unit lost some key seniors along with LB Hardy Nickerson, who announced this spring that he was leaving to join his dad at Illinois.

The Bears over the last four years have not been a good team. Even with last years 8-5 record, over the last four years the Bears are 17-31 straight up. Against the spread they have a 18-31 record. As a favorite over the last four years California has a 6-10 ATS record. Remember, they went 8-5 with the number one quarterback in the NFL draft on the team.

On defense in 2015, the Bears ranked 89th in points allowed at 30.7 points per game. In yards allowed they ranked 109th and gave up 453.7 yards a game. In fact, you can go down the list and you will not find an important defensive stat where Cal ranked in the top half of teams in the nation.

About Hawaii Warriors

Offense: Starters returning – 7; Defense: Starters returning – 6
Hawaii new head coach Nick Rolovich will start fifth-year senior Ikaika Woolsey at quarterback. Woolsey has played in 37 games for the Warriors and brings some stability to the offense. The defense, lacks true playmakers, especially up front which one of the reasons the Warriors had such problems stopping the run last year.

Taking a look at the Warriors over the last four years and the straight up record is abysmal. Just 11-39 on the money line. However, the ATS record is a respectable 21-28. Where Hawaii has been good money for sports betting is in non conference games. They have a 12-6 record, which is 66% ATS. That will make you money over the course of a season.

In 2015, Hawaii was terrible. The offense was one of the worst in football. A few notable results from 2015; 17.6 points a game (118th ranked), 316.6 yards a game (121st ranked), 4.85 yards per play which ranked 114th in the country. On defense, the Warriors managed to be one of the worst teams in the country. They gave up an average of 35.6 points a game which ranked 105th in the country. They were pathetic against the run, giving up an average of 240 yards a game which ranked 120th in the nation.

California vs Hawaii College Football Prediction

Nick Rolovich was the OC at Nevada Reno for the last 4 years. Rolovich came to Nevada after a four-year run at Hawaii, where he directed one of the top passing offenses in the nation. In Rolovich’s first game with Nevada in 2012, the Wolfpack beat the Bears, 31-24, as a 12 point road dog. This is going to make a few people do a double take but the better head coach is on the Hawaii sidelines. I like that all they have to do is keep it within three touchdowns to win. I am placing my money on one of the top offensive coaches in football to take advantage of an overrated Bears team.
