Georgia vs Ole Miss Preview

We are just 3 weeks into the season, and the Ole Miss Rebels are already in trouble. They are just 1-2 record, and are coming off a tough loss to Alabama. Two losses in the season’s first three games would derail most teams’ hopes of reaching the playoffs, but Ole Miss is still ranked 21st in the nation and has the schedule to climb back into the hunt. A win over No. 11 Georgia is a must. Not only did the Rebs lose, they ended up blowing a 22-point lead in a loss to Florida State and a 21-point lead last week against Alabama.

The Bulldogs won their SEC opener last week in dramatic fashion, as freshman quarterback Jacob Eason navigated Georgia 80 yards and threw the game-winning touchdown in a 28-27 victory at Missouri. Eason passed for 308 yards in his second career start, but the Bulldogs averaged just 2.7 yards per rushing attempt.

About Georgia Bulldogs (3-0):

In their last action, Georgia was a 28-27 winner on the road against Tigers. They failed to cover the -7-point spread as favorites, while the combined score (55) was profitable news for OVER bettors.

The Georgia Bulldogs are an ugly 3-0 on the season. They handed the ball off to freshman running back Jacob Eason to lead them to tight wins against Nicholls State and Missouri. The win over the Tigers last week may have firmly established the young QB as the starter, as he led the team on a late TD drive to get the win, and tossed for over 300 yards.

The Bulldogs were torched for 376 passing yards last week and face another high-powered passing offense this week, but jump-starting a struggling running game is just as important heading into Saturday. Nick Chubb ranks 13th nationally at 121.7 yards per game but only rushed for 63 yards against Missouri.

About Ole Miss Rebels (1-2):

Ole Miss lost its last outing, a 48-43 result against Crimson Tide on September 17. Ole Miss covered in that game as a +10-point underdog, while the 91 combined points took the game OVER the total.

The Rebels are one of the strangest teams in college football, looking like a top team in the first half and then completely collapsing in the second half of games. They could easily be 3-0 instead of 1-2.

Quarterback Chip Kelly has plenty of targets, as seven players have caught a touchdown pass through three games and Engram leads the team with 20 receptions and 302 receiving yards. While Kelly has averaged 318 passing yards per contest and threw for a career-high 421 last week, he also has six turnovers. The Rebels second half collapse can be traced to the defense which is 104th nationally in third-down defense.

Georgia vs Ole Miss Prediction:

These two teams both need to get the running game going. For Georgia, they have one of the top running backs in the country in Nick Chubb and he should be able to run against the Rebels defense. For the Rebels, these second half losses could have been prevented if they had an offense that could control the ball in the second half. I like the Rebels to try and do that in this game to keep the defense off the field as much as possible. Taking the under as long as it is at 60 points or more.
