About Oregon State Beavers (2-10)

Offense: Starters returning – 8; Defense: Starters returning – 6
The Beavers remain in a rebuilding effort after going 2-10 last season. They think they have found a QB in Utah State transfer Darell Gurretson, and new offensive and defensive coordinators will look to turn around a team that ranked near the bottom on both sides of the ball in 2015.

The Beavers are an average college football team. Over the last four years they are 24-26 straight up. Against the spread over the last four years they are 22-26. Last year they were 2-10 SU and 3-9 ATS. Against non conference teams they were 1-2 SU & on the road they were 1-4 ATS. As underdogs last year they were a dreadful 1-5 ATS.

In 2015 the Beavers were a bad offenseive team and a bad defensive team. They scored 19 points a game which ranked 115th in the country. They were 111th in total yards. On defense, they were 114th in points allowed with 37 a game and they were 116th yards per game. Almost every major stat they ranked in the bottom 25% in the country.

About Minnesota Golden Gophers (6-7)

Offense: Starters returning – 7; Defense: Starters returning – 6
New offensive coordinator Jay Johnson will try to improve on one of the worst offenses in college football. Johnson is expected to lean on sophomore running back Rodney Smith to at least get the running game going. They do have experienced leadership with senior quarterback Mitch Leidner.

Minnesota has been another average team with a `28-24 straight record and a 30-22 ATS record over four years. Last year the were 6-7 SU & 7-6 ATS. At home they were 3-4 ATS while against non conference teams they were 2-3.

In 2015, the offense definitely lagged the defense. They were ranked 106th in the country with 22.5 points a game on offense. However, on defense they ranked 45th by giving up 25.2 points per game.

Oregon State vs Minnesota College Football Prediction

The Beavers were routed 35-7 at Michigan early last season and blowouts became a common theme in Pac-12 play as they dropped all nine of their league games by an average of 24.6 points. The Golden Gophers have plenty of work of their own to do in the Big Ten West after losing six of their eight conference games.

The Gophers have the best unit on the field and it is the defense. For Oregon State there just isn’t the talent to play against PAC12 or Big Ten teams. They lost repeatedly by double digits last year and were terrible on the road. The offense will only be slightly improved this year. For Minnesota, any offense will lead to a much improved team. The offense wasn’t only bad it managed to drag down a pretty good defense. This game will be ugly to watch if you don’t have money on it. My pick is Minnesota -13 points. That might seem like a lot to lay to a PAC12 team but the Oregon State offense may give up more points than it scores.
