About the Texas Longhorns (2-1)

Texas was a 50-43 loser in their most recent outing on the road against Golden Bears. They failed to cover the -7.5-point spread as favorites, while the total score (93) made winners of OVER bettors.

Fresh off their first loss of the season against California, it’s going to be interesting to see how the No. 22 Texas Longhorns respond when they begin Big 12 play in this week’s showdown with Oklahoma State.

The Longhorns gave up 50 points for the second time this season in their setback to the Golden Bears. They’re about to match up with a Cowboys team that’s posted at least 30 points in each of its four games this year, so the Texas D is in for another test.

In the likelihood that the defense doesn’t hold up again, the Longhorns have no choice but to match fire with fire. Scoring has not been a problem for them at all. Across three games, they’re averaging 44.7 points, which is among the highest in the nation right now.

About the Oklahoma State Cowboys (2-2)

Oklahoma State was a 35-24 loser in their most recent outing on the road against the Baylor Bears. They failed to cover the +7-point spread as underdogs, while the total score (59) made winners of UNDER bettors.

Oklahoma State has to be pretty frustrated with the loss. The Cowboys were in striking distance throughout the entire game, but they beat themselves because of turnovers and their defense which gave up too many opportunities, especially down the stretch.

The Cowboys can look forward to several opportunities against a Texas defense that’s yielding nearly 50 points per game this season. Quarterback Mason Rudolph, who was held touchdown-less versus the Bears, should have an easier time in moving the ball forward through his favorite targets in James Washington, Jhajuan Seales and Jalen McCleskey, all of whom have scored at least once this season.

Texas at Oklahoma State Prediction

The Longhorns are poised to bounce back after suffering their first loss in Berkeley. Texas will be able to use that extra week of preparation to help out a young defense. Oklahoma State is coming off an emotional loss against Baylor last week. Both of these teams have defensive problems that they will be exposed again this week in a high scoring game. The difference is that Texas has a better running game. That will allow a more balanced offense in the game and a bonus of being able to control the clock late in the game if they are ahead. Make no mistake about it, this will be a high scoring game with the loser possibly going over 40 points.
