Steelers vs Chiefs Betting Preview

Lets start with what the Steelers did to the Chiefs in Week 4. A 41-13 beating, with Big Ben connecting on five touchdowns and with Bell going off for 140 rushing yards. In that game the Steelers lead at one point 36-0. How quick was this game over? Six offensive snaps. Three Ben Roethlisberger touchdowns passes. Two to Antonio Brown.

Pittsburgh Steelers: (10-6)

The Pittsburgh Steelers have now won eight-consecutive games after beating the Miami Dolphins last week, 30-12. The Steelers have gone 6-1-1 against the spread during their run, which includes four-straight road victories. Pittsburgh was hitting on all cylinders as Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell all played well together. Sunday marked the first time that the three “Killer B’s” started a postseason game together.

Bell set a new Steelers single-game, playoff record with 167 rushing yards on 29 carries to go with two rushing touchdowns. Antonio Brown had five receptions to for 124 receiving yards. Meanwhile, Roethlisberger didn’t have to do a lot in the passing game to get the win. He finished with 189 yards on 13-of-18 passing. However, he also threw two interceptions. His second pick of the day was at the end of the game when he should have already been pulled. Of course he hurt his right foot during the play and he says he is going to be ready for the Chiefs. Ben was wearing a walking boot during Sunday’s post-game conference so it remains to see how mobile he will be. Roethlisberger has been notoriously terrible on the road (nine TDs to eight INTs, 78.4 QB rating), and the Steelers need him to be a full strength to buy a little time if they are going to take advantage of the Chiefs deep.

The Steelers defense finished 11th in the league against the pass and 12th against the run. Last week they had four sacks, and held Miami running back Jay Ajayi to just 33 rushing yard on 16 carries after Ajayi torched the Steelers for over 200 yards in Week 4 of the regular season.

Kansas City Chiefs (12-4):

The Chiefs are the football version of Rodney Dangerfield. They get no respect. Not even a 3 point home favorite as the number 2 seed. For a 12-win Kansas City Chiefs that had five wins in their last six games to clinch the AFC West title and a first-round bye, this is their chance to earn respect.

The Chiefs’ offense still has Alex Smith, the “game manager” at quarterback. However, he now has some legitimate offensive weapons. Rookie wideout Tyreek Hill had touchdown scores of 68 yards or more in each of his last four starts, (two receiving and two via TD returns on special teams). Tight end Travis Kelce led all players at his position this season with 1,125 receiving yards.

Kansas City’s defense was as opportunistic as ever, finishing with an NFL-bests of 33 takeaways and a turnover differential of plus-16 during the regular season. However, the Chiefs get all of those turnovers by taking chances in the secondary and finished a 24th in the league by allowing 368.5 yards per game.

The Chiefs have lost four-straight playoff games at home and had not won one in front of their fans since 1993.

Pittsburgh vs Kansas City Prediction:

The Steelers just ran over the Chiefs when they played in Week 4 in Pittsburgh. Is that what to expect in this one? Will regular season Andy Reid give way to post season Andy Reid and become to conservative to win? There is a lot of offensive fire power in this game. Everyone knows about the Steelers and how they can score. The Chiefs can score on offense, defense and special teams. Look for several big plays in this game. (I will be posting my prop bets for this one later in the week on PropBets.Football). The Chief are going to need some big plays to stay up with the Steelers offense and they should get some from the defense & special teams. I do like Andy Reid when he has a bye week to prepare for a team. This game & the one that follows in Dallas should be the two most entertaining games of the weekend.

What to watch early. Ben and his mobility. If he is mobile enough to buy an extra second or two he will have several chances for deep passes against the Chiefs. If he is not, well Ben will put it up anyway and get picked off several times. My bet on the game is that the Chiefs finally get a little respect and win a close one along with a bet on the over. A tip here…with most of the money going on Pittsburgh. If you want to bet the Chiefs wait a little and you might get them at pick’em. An update. The ice storm that caused the game time to be changed will still have lingering effects during the game. This will make it more difficult for the field goal kickers and deep passing. While I still like Kansas City to win, I did lower the score total.
