Houston vs New England Preview

About Houston Texans (2-0):

The Texans were a 19-12 winner in their most recent outing at home against the Chiefs. They covered the +0-point spread as underdogs, while the total score (31) made winners of UNDER bettors.

Osweiler signed a four-year, $72 million contract in the offseason and has not been great but has been an improvement over last year. The defense has lead the Texans, which have yielded just 26 points (NFL third-best), 274.5 yards allowed (third-best) and 178.5 passing yards (fourth-best). Three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt collected 1.5 sacks in a 19-12 win over Kansas City on Sunday and linebacker Whitney Mercilus has two this season and 17 in his last 14 games overall.

About New England Patriots (2-0):

New England won its last outing, a 31-24 result against the Dolphins on September 18. The Patriots covered in that game as a -6-point favorite, while the 55 combined points took the game OVER the total.

All of the talk will be about┬áJacoby Brissett making his first career start. However, running back LeGarrette Blount has 193 yards and two touchdowns this season and has provided a legitimate ground game to the Pats.┬áThe Patriots have kept the door open for Garoppolo to still dress for Thursday’s game while WR Julian Edelman, who played QB at Kent State, could serve as an emergency option. I could see Edelman getting a few looks at quarterback to try and take advantage of the Texans inability to stop running quarterbacks.

New England is 18-5 SU in its last 23 games
The total has gone OVER in 4 of New England’s last 5 games at home
New England is 23-2 SU in its last 25 games at home
New England is 5-1-1 ATS in its last 7 games at home

The total has gone OVER in 6 of New England’s last 7 games when playing Houston

Texans vs Patriots Prediction:

The Patriots keep finding ways to win. Brady often overshadows one of the keys to the Pats when they have made Super Bowl runs and that is having one of the best defenses in the NFL. This year a top defense and a solid running game have given them the luxury of winning with second and third string quarterbacks. The Texans are also off to a 2 and 0 record. They have also done it with defense. The Texans will be making their first road trip of the year and that is going to be a question mark on the team in how well will Brock play on the road. This is one tough game to handicap because of the big unknown at quarterback for New England. For this game I have to look more at tendencies of both coaches and they do tend to lean on the defense and the short passing game.

The two best units on the field in this game will be the defensive units of both teams. I am going to make only one bet and that will be on the under. I will also be making prop bets on the game and those can be found at PropBets.Fooball
