Updated 8-14-16*** (Went 2-0 on 8/11 & 1-0 on 8/12) added a pick for 8/13 & lost that one *** good luck

The 2016 NFL Preseason week one schedule kicks off with the Hall of Fame game on August 7th between the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts. That is just the beginning of another year of football. Every team will be in action starting on August 11th. We will be providing betting picks fore some of  the games to help you get started building your football betting bankroll. Do not expect predictions on every game because that is not realistic. We will only be making predictions on games that we would lay our own money on. Please check back as we will be adding more betting picks each day.

Below you will find the basics to help you get started with your preseason NFL wagering. First and foremost we have the betting lines up. One of the most important stats to track for preseason wagering is the Head Coaches ATS record during preseason games. We have included the ATS records for both side bets and for totals wagering. There are several new Head Coaches and I would layoff of them for the first week of the season.

With that, it is time for some NFL betting!

Of course lines will change and to see the current lines you can go to our odds page.

Redskins vs Falcons Prediction: Quarterbacks will rule the day when it comes to NFL preseason games. Washington will play a lot of Colt McCoy and rookie Nate Sudfeld out of Indiana. The Falcons will play a lot of Matt Schaub and Sean Renfree once Matt Ryan is benched after a series. The Atlanta Falcons may have one of the better trio of quarterbacks in the league which means there will be more snaps in the game with an NFL caliber quarterback. Lets face it, you might not want to go into a regular season game with Colt McCoy and Matt Schaub as your starting quarterbacks. However, in a preseason game against a bunch of scrub defensive backs it is money time with my bet on the over in this game.

Washington Redskins vs Atlanta Falcons Prediction: Taking over 37 as my only bet on the game

New Orleans Saints at New England Patriots

When: 7:30 PM ET, Thursday, August 11, 2016
Where: Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts
Odds: Saints +3.5, Patriots -3.5
Total: 39
Head Coach Preseason ATS Records:
New Orleans Saints Sean Payton
Win 19 Loss 16 Push 2
Over 21 Under 14 Push 2
New England Bill Belichick
Win 40 Loss 36 Push 1
Over 51 Under 34 Push 0

Saints vs Patriots Prediction: It is Jimmy Garoppolo time! Who? Ya, the guy the Patriots are depending on to replace Brady for the first four games of the season. The 2014 draft pick is going to have to get a lot of reps during preseason to make sure he is ready for opening week. In two years with the Pats his regular season stats are pretty anemic. He completed 18 of 31 passes for 188 yards, with 1 TD and 0 Int. So, what are we looking at in this game? Both Head Coaches have tended toward the over during preseason games and that is what I expect them to do in this one.

New Orleans Saints vs New England Patriots Prediction: Taking over 39 as my only bet on the game

Oakland Raiders vs Arizona Cardinals Prediction: The Raiders will mostly play quarterbacks Matt McGloin and rookie quarterback Connor Cook, as they battle for the No. 2 spot. On defense, the Oakland Raiders are very young and will be shuffling in and out a lot of talent.  In Arizona there will be several quarterbacks playing to back up Palmer; Drew Stanton, Matt Barkley and rookie Jake Coker. Because of his experience Stanton is the favorite for the No. 2 job. Defensively, the Arizona Cardinals will be looking to upgrade from last years team and expect them to take a long look at several defensive backs you have never heard of.

Raiders vs Cardinals Free Pick: Taking the over with a lot of decent backup quarterback play.

Over 5 Under 12 Push 3
Los Angeles Rams Jeff Fisher
Win 37 Loss 40 Push 0
Over 43 Under 33 Push 1

NFL Preseason Prediction Cowboys vs Rams:

Rams head coach Jeff Fisher isn’t on e of my favorite coaches. In fact, I think he is one of the most overrated coaches in football. But, he wants to keep his job and that means winning now. That is why you won’t see much of Goff early in the season. LA will have Case Keenum starting and Sean Mannion coming off the bench; two veterans who are primed to move the offense.  On the other side is a Cowboy team that just wants to be healthy for one season. Last year they lost their first two preseason games last year by a combined 40-13 margin.

Betting on the Rams -5 (take up to 6 points)

NFL Preseason Week 1 August 14th 2016

Houston Texans at San Francisco 49ers

When: 7:00 PM ET, Sunday, August 14, 2016
Where: Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, California
Odds: Texans +3, 49ers -3
Total: 35.5
Head Coach Preseason ATS Records:
Houston Texans Bill O’Brien
Win 4 Loss 4 Push 0
Over 1 Under 7 Push 0
San Francisco 49ers Chip Kelly
Win 7 Loss 5 Push 0
Over 10 Under 2 Push 0

The first week of the 2016 NFL Preseason ends with the Houston Texans visiting the San Francisco 49ers in Levi Stadium in Santa Clara. The first thing to consider in this game is that this stadium has one of the worst turfs in the NFL. If you are a visiting coach in the preseason there is no reason to leave your regulars on the crappy field. Why see a torn ACL for nothing? The 49ers do have an incentive to leave the regulars in longer. They have a new coach who comes with a lot of questions and the season tickets sales are down. Never forget, this is a business and the players are just a product they put on the field. Right now, the 49ers management needs to sale a lot more tickets to pay down the cost of building the stadium and the only way to do that is put fans in the seats.

Looking at the history of the two coaches in preseason games it is obvious that the Texans O’Brien does not care much about winning preseason games. His focus is on looking at talent. This is the biggest difference between betting on preseason games and betting on regular season games. The Texans will look at second, third and, waiver talent while the 49ers need to set a “winning attitude” on day one. This will dictate not only who will play but how long they will play. The 49ers might not be a better team but, they will leave the first and second string players on longer than the Texans and take a easy win.

Texans at 49ers Pick: 49ers -3
