In week one of the NFL preseason the 49ers failed to cover the spread against at home against the Houston Texans in a 24-13 loss. The Broncos looked impressive in a 22-0 shutout of the Chicago Bears.

About San Francisco 49ers

Gabbert, who started the final eight games last season, did little to improve his position in the first two drives. He was off-target on his first two passes as San Francisco went three-and-out in 41 seconds on the opening drive and started the game 1 for 6 overall. However, on the third drive when he scrambled 13 yards for a first down and then hit McDonald for the long score when Benardrick McKinney slipped in coverage. The key is if McKinney had not slipped the 49ers offense was contained by the Texans for the entire game.

About Denver Broncos

Mark Sanchez looked good for the Denver Broncos, throwing for 99 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter. The defending Super Bowl champions beat the Chicago Bears 22-0 in the preseason opener for both teams. The Broncos defense looked ready to start the season as they got after the quarterbacks all game.  Jay Cutler threw for 18 yards and got sacked twice in the first quarter. Brian Hoyer threw for 81 yards in the second period but was sacked three times.

San Francisco vs Denver Week 2 Prediction

The Broncos won the Super Bowl last year with below average quarterback play. It looks like Denver will once again enter the season with a mediocre quarterback but, that will be enough if the defense continues to play like it did in week one. The Broncos defense should be able to get to the 49ers quarterbacks consistently in this game. With Chip Kelly calling the plays there will be a lot of three and outs for the 49ers today. For the Broncos, it is about developing timing with Sanchez and the rest of the offense. 6 points is a lot to lay in an NFL preseason game but in this game it is the only side I can back. Note here… most Las Vegas books and Bovada have this game at -7 but SportsBetting.ag has them at -6. That is a big difference and if you are going to bet the Broncos take the time to open account. Time to use line shopping to your advantage.
